Charity ride around Europe
On 1st July 2010, I intend to set off on a trip around Europe to raise money through Noah's Ark Appeal, for The Children's Hospital for Wales. I chose this Charity for a number of reasons, too many to list. Let's just say that all children deserve the best medical help they can get.
The Children's Hospital for Wales is here for exactly that. It took a long time to get our own Children's Hospital here in Wales, so I thought it best that we support it the best we can. Who knows when we will need it? Let's hope that most of us never have to take our children there but at the same time take comfort in knowing it is there with excellent staff and facilities...
As for this trip? The idea came about after a proposed ride across the USA fell through. I still wanted to do a big motorcycle trip, but where ??? First I decided that I would just hop across the Channel for a couple of weeks camping, alone on the bike. I talked with some friends about it and the idea of trying to raise some money for a charity was mentioned. This set the old brain going. I had a big think about it and had plenty of ideas flashing through my head, way too many to start with.
Finally I had it. I had “THE” idea. I would ride around Europe, visiting 14 countries in around 12,500kms. Selling the kms for a £1 each. En route I would try to visit as many Children's Hospitals as possible and exchange a toy at each one. And, for the “Icing on The Cake” I would try to blag my way around, do the whole trip without paying... Yes, without paying!!! This way I feel like it's giving something in return for your donations... In the end I called Kath Hall, of W.F.Hall & Son ltd, someone I had spoke to in the past about Noahs Ark Appeal. I ran my idea past her and she thought it was great. In fact, if it was not for the enthusiasm I could hear in her voice, I think I would have had second thoughts about it all. So a big thank you to Kath.
Also a very big thank you to Barry of W3designs for his time & effort in donating this website.
